Gooderstone, Norfolk
In their requirement for a public play area, Gooderstone Parish Council was keen to provide separate areas for particular age groups so that the play area would meet the needs of the whole village. Accordingly the large area was divided into three sections aimed at toddlers, 5-10 year olds and teenagers.
This was an ambitious scheme which required considerable funding. When plans were agreed, we were able to advise the Council on the range of bodies likely to provide grants and the best way of approaching them. In all it took eighteen months from our first discussions until we were ready for two weeks of installation.
Adventure Playgrounds prepared the site and provided the complete play area, including extensive fencing and a loggia entrance.
To make best use of a good-sized space, a large area of 'wet-pour' safety surface is left free for bikes and ball games. A train station with track coloured into the surface and a boat with sea and sand in the surface provide almost infinite opportunities for imaginative play. A stage with grassy area can form part of play or be used for group activity.
